PWC, Deloitte and AmCham Discussing Visas with Foreign Police and Work Offices

PWC, Deloitte and AmCham co-organized a roundtable on problematic visa issues that featured Foreign Police, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and several work offices representatives...

Jetro and Indian Chamber of Commerce also participated. Unfortunately, we have to report that the main issue troubling visa applicants in Prague and Brno, i.e. the fact that the visas are regularly issued at the very end of the statutory deadlines or beyond, will not be resolved in the near future. Due to the current economic downturn, market reviews and inspections carried out by work offices have to be more rigorous than before. Also, the Foreign Police have an increased work load due to an amendment to the Act on Police effective as of January 1, 2009.
During the roundtable, the Ministry of Interior have revealed that an amendment to the Act on Stay of Foreigners in the Czech Republic is being finalized. This is an opportunity for foreign chambers to comment on problematic issues of the visa process and have the changes enacted. AmCham has contacted the Ministry of Industry and Trade and initiated a co-operation between the Ministry and foreign chambers on issuing a joint position to be used in the official commentary round. The amendment will also touch upon the regulation of green cards to make them more attractive for employers.
