What

AmCham’s annual overview and discussion on the development of energy markets in Czechia and Europe.
 
Agenda:
1) Philippe Ducom, President, ExxonMobil Europe will present on deverlopments in EU energy policy and practice. 
a. How much progress has been made across the EU in constructing new sources of production and new distribution networks? Has progress been sufficient to achieve EU goals of independence from Russian energy sources and shifting to sustainable sources of energy production?
b. Has private sector investment met expectations? If so, what is driving the investment? If not, what is inhibiting investment?
c. How will the election of a new EU parliament and commission alter the Green Deal, or EU energy and sustainable economy investment?
d. Is a EU energy market a feasible possibility?
e. Have any new sustainable or efficiency technologies been discovered or spread into the market over the past year?

 

2) Zsofia Beck, Partner, BCG Hungary will provide an overview of investment in power grids, and policy to incentivize investment. 
a. Are some countries further ahead in investing into sustainable power grids?
b. If so, what are the primary drivers (natural resources, company/investor financial stability, government policy) in their success?
c. What are some best practices that the Czech Republic could adopt?
 
The Czech session will be comprised of three presentations:
 
1) Petr Materna, Partner, Kearney will provide an overview of the situation in the Czech energy market. 
a. Is the Czech energy market making the necessary investments to achieve a switch away from the previous strategy of bolstering economy through cheap Russian oil and gas and toward sustainable supply?
b. What are the primary inhibitors of such investment?
c. How are government policies and administration helping or hurting such investment?

 

2) David Hajman, Director for Strategy, ČEZ will provide an overview of CEZ’s strategy. 
a. How does CEZ strategy fit into current government strategy?
b. How does CEZ strategy align with EU goals for sustainable energy development?
c. How does CEZ strategy align with energy production needs of the industrial sector? Can industry expect continued price rises due to investment needs of energy sector? 
d. CEZ strategy appears to be based on nuclear power? How will other sustainable sources of energy supplement that core piece, and when?

 

3) Michal Kupec, Site Lead, Parker Hannifin will provide a case study on developing own sustainable supply at a manufacturing facility.
a. Does such an investment meet standard ROI expectations?
b. What are the pros and cons of such an investment?
c. Does the Czech government support such an investment?
