What

We believe that successful cities that are vibrant and meet the needs of people and businesses are vital for the future of the country. The role of urban development is key in this process. And it´s more than clear that the current regulatory environment in the Czech Republic is far from ideal and often hinders successful urban development. The session will be opened by Faculty of Architecture dean Prof. Ing. arch. Ladislav Lábus. During the discussion we will focus on how Prague has developed successfully in the past, particularly on the dynamic period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when rapid development in areas such as Vinohrady occurred. These areas are now considered some of the most attractive places to live yet the current regulations actively inhibit the development of a modern Vinohrady. We will hear from one of the authors of the new Prague building regulations how this document addresses future development of the City. We will also look at how an enlightened approach to heritage preservation can help invigorate cities - by preserving the best of the old but recognising that cities are dynamic and always changing.
