The Government approved the so-called International Competitiveness Strategy of the Czech Republic that was drafted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in spring (outline is attached). The Ministry is now planning the actual implementation of the strategy which comprises over 150 project in the areas such as energy, infrastructure, smart migration and flexible labor market, research, development and innovations, education or healthcare, for example. What are the next steps within the three pillars outlined by the strategy and what projects will have a priority? How can the business sector participate in the implementation of the strategy? Amending the Labor Code is among priorities of the Czech Government that were announced in the Governement Proclamation in August 2010. The proposed changes mirror the negative practical experience of Labor Code users with the 2007 amendment and rulings of the Constitutional Court. The aim of drafters was to increase flexibility of the labor market, reduce administrative costs of businesses and stregthen the principle of freedom of contract. Were these targets met? Tax Committee Meeting on Single Collection Point and proposed amendments to related acts

The introduction of the Single Collection Point (Jedno inkasní místo - JIM) is one of the Government's priorities. The launch of JIM requires preparation of amendments to a range of related acts, such as Income Tax Act, VAT Act, Tax Order, Pension Insurance Act, Social Insurance Act and Health Insurance Act, for example. AmCham members are invited to submit their comments to the proposal of the Ministry of Finance (attached). All comments will be discussed at the Tax Committee session on June 27. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has recently published Strategy of International Competitiveness of the Czech Republic. The document is divided into 9 chapters: Institutions Infrastructure Makroeconomic policy Health Care Education Labor Market Effective financial markets Effective goods and services markets and improved business environment Innovations Which issues should be primarily dealt with and how is the strategy going to be implemented? How can it realistically influence competitiveness of the Czech Republic? What are the main challenges for the implementation of the strategy? What else should be included in the strategy?
